Fine Linen - Europe's natural fibre

„Organic cotton, linen, hemp. They are natural materials that breathe. If our ancestors had used them in clothing for thousands of years, it was for a reason!...Linen is a very interesting material. It is extremely resistant but also a thermo regulating fiber.“

Linen - A material with a rich history

Fine Linen is a precious fiber that is Mediterranean by history and European by tradition. It is the oldest plant fibre of mankind, dating back 36,000.

Ancient Egyptians endowed the cloth with symbolic significance as a representation of purity and called it ‘woven moonlight’. Egyptians were obsessed with hygiene and fine linen with its antibacterial qualities was a symbol of ‘purity’ and ‘light and reserved for people with high social standing. The garment was so valued that is was even used as a currency.

The Ancient Greeks used fine linen's versatility for beautiful drapings. The crinkled look was very fashionable, and the fabric with its elegance and simplicity the most popular choice.

Since it has always been complex to produce, it was the garment of the nobles. The richness and sophistication of fine linen remains linked to the manual production.

Up until today, the human hand is crucial to the process of developing Europe’s fine linen, and the art of growing flax lies in the subtle combination of geo-climatic assets and generations of experience.

Linen has a natural cooling effect

Fine linen is the perfect garment for heat and humidity, since it immediately absorbs sweat and evaporates liquids, with its antibacterial property taking on little to none odor. Nobles from ancient times valued the light fabric for personal hygiene and the cropped look for the effortless elegance. The finest of linen is very soft, and the natural material breathes.

Nature, composition, and architecture of the fibers give flax excellent properties: maximum resistance, high capacity to absorb humidity, insulating and thermo-regulating properties, non-allergenic characteristics.

Highest standards for a natural choice

Linen is made from the flax plant, and needs the know-how of generations of flax growers to assure quality. Our carefully spun fine fibre is woven with generations of knowledge, using only the longest fibres for premium quality and long-lasting durability. The production is rooted in the territories of origin, contributing to the economic and social wellbeing of the growing areas.

Flax farming has a minimal environmental footprint. We use 100% EUROPEAN FLAX for our fine linen, which requires zero irrigation and grows on rainwater. The natural fabric is self-sustainable and biodegradable. It's a robust plant that requires minimal weed killers.

Every part of the plant is used, so there’s no waste. Flax farming even improves the soil, since it acts as a fertilizer.

  • EUROPEAN FLAX is a naturally sustainable option for the economic, social and environmental ecosystem.
  • Flax helps the planet to breathe: Every year, the growing of Flax in Europe results in the capture of 250,000 tons of CO2.
  • Rain water is enough for European Flax: It requires zero irrigation. whereas around 2,700 liters/ 700 gallons of water are required for the cotton of a shirt.
